ChatGPT visibility checker: does ChatGPT mention your brand?
Paste one page. We ask OpenAI’s GPT-5 mini with web search the questions your buyers ask and show whether it mentions you, cites your site, and who it recommends instead.
Opens the free check with GPT-5 mini answers expanded first. Free · no sign-up · daily limit.
This free ChatGPT visibility checker asks GPT-5 mini, the OpenAI model family behind ChatGPT, with web search enabled, up to three buyer questions through the OpenAI API (routed via OpenRouter). It shows whether your brand is mentioned, whether your site is cited, and which competitors and pages are cited instead. The free check runs once with no sign-up, alongside Perplexity Sonar and Gemini 2.5 Flash. The full audit after you sign up (free account) repeats the answers, adds Claude Haiku 4.5 and a fact-checked page fix. Answers come from the API, not the ChatGPT app.
Example report
- Mentioned or not, per question
- Cited your site or not, and which sites were cited
- Competitors named instead (counted in code)
- Crawler and indexing checks
- Every answer, labelled with its model
Free check vs full audit
| Free check (no sign-up) | Full audit (free account) | |
|---|---|---|
| GPT-5 mini with web search | Yes, one answer per question | Yes, with repeated answers |
| Other assistants | Perplexity Sonar, Gemini 2.5 Flash | Plus Claude Haiku 4.5 (4 in total) |
| Mentions, citations, competitors | Yes | Yes, with uncertainty ranges |
| Fact-checked page edit + live check | No | Yes |
| Re-checks over time | Run it again yourself | Opt-in weekly re-sampling |
How we check
- Read your page. We fetch the public URL you paste and suggest buyer questions without your brand name in them, so we can see whether the model brings you up on its own. You can edit them or write your own (up to three).
- Ask the model live. Each question goes to GPT-5 mini through the API (via OpenRouter) with web search enabled, plus Perplexity Sonar and Gemini 2.5 Flash in the free check. One answer per assistant per question.
- Count in code, not by the model. Brand mentions, citations of your domain and competitor names are counted in code from the answer text and its sources.
- Check crawler access. We also check noindex, canonical, sitemap and robots.txt rules for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and GPTBot, because a page ChatGPT search can’t crawl can’t be cited.
- Label everything. Every answer in the report is labelled with the model that wrote it. A single answer is a sample, not a ranking.
What we know about how ChatGPT picks sources
- Search crawler, not training bot. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot; GPTBot is used for training. Blocking GPTBot does not remove a page from ChatGPT search results. Background: OAI-SearchBot vs GPTBot.
- It searches a lot before it recommends. In our manual test on 9 Oct 2026 (seven questions, one account, one run each), ChatGPT ran between 2 and 22 web searches per question and looked at between 19 and 182 pages before answering. What it searched and why.
- It checks prices on vendor pages. In the same test it verified candidates with
site:searches for each vendor’s pricing page, and preferred vendor pages over third-party lists for prices and features. - API answers can differ from the app. We sample the API model, so personalisation, memory and app-only features are not part of the answer. Use the result as a signal to investigate, not as what every user sees.

Need ongoing tracking?
Citelane checks a few buyer questions per page and turns the gap into one page fix; it is not a daily tracker of hundreds of prompts. If that’s what you need, compare the options in best Perplexity rank trackers, where every price links to the vendor’s own pricing page with the date we checked it.
Questions
Is this a free ChatGPT visibility checker?
Yes. The check is free with a daily limit per visitor and needs no sign-up. It asks GPT-5 mini with web search, Perplexity Sonar and Gemini 2.5 Flash up to three buyer questions and gives you a shareable report.
Does it check the ChatGPT app?
No. It asks GPT-5 mini, the OpenAI model family behind ChatGPT, through the API with web search. App answers can differ because of personalisation, memory and the exact model a user has, so the report labels every answer with its model.
Is this a ChatGPT rank tracker?
Not in the daily-dashboard sense. ChatGPT doesn’t have fixed rankings: answers change from run to run. Citelane records whether you are mentioned and cited for a small panel of buyer questions. With a free account you can opt in to weekly re-sampling of the same questions and compare over time.
Can I use it as a ChatGPT visibility tracker?
Yes, for a few questions: the full audit after you sign up (free account) repeats the answers, adds Claude Haiku 4.5, and can re-sample the same questions weekly. If you need daily tracking of hundreds of prompts, a dedicated tracker fits better.
What are the best tools for monitoring ChatGPT mentions?
It depends on volume. For a quick, free check of a few buyer questions, use this page. For ongoing tracking of many prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, compare the dedicated trackers in our buyer’s guide to rank trackers and our Otterly.AI alternatives list; every price there links to the vendor’s own pricing page.
Does it track Google AI Overviews or AI Mode?
No. Citelane does not sample Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot. It covers GPT-5 mini, Perplexity Sonar, Gemini 2.5 Flash and, in the full audit, Claude Haiku 4.5.
Why am I mentioned but not cited?
The model knew your name from other sources but didn’t pick your page as the best source for that question. Usually the page lacks a direct, specific answer, or OAI-SearchBot can’t crawl it.
