This free Perplexity visibility checker asks Perplexity Sonar, through its API, up to three buyer questions about your category. It shows whether your brand is mentioned, whether your site is among the sources Perplexity cites, and which competitors and pages are cited instead. It runs once with no sign-up, alongside Gemini 2.5 Flash and GPT-5 mini. As a Perplexity rank tracker it is a spot check, not daily tracking: a free account adds repeated answers, Claude Haiku 4.5 and a fact-checked page fix.

How we check
- Read your page. We fetch the public URL you paste and suggest buyer questions without your brand name in them. Edit them or write your own (up to three).
- Ask Perplexity live. Each question goes to Perplexity Sonar through the API (via OpenRouter). Sonar searches the web itself and returns the URLs it used, so every answer in the report lists its sources. Gemini 2.5 Flash and GPT-5 mini answer the same questions for comparison.
- Count in code. Whether your brand is named, whether your domain is among the cited URLs, and which competitors appear are counted in code, not judged by a model.
- Check crawler access. We check robots.txt rules for PerplexityBot, plus noindex, canonical, sitemap and server-rendered text.
- Show the evidence. The shareable report shows each answer and its cited sites, so you can see which pages Perplexity trusted for the question.
What we know about how Perplexity picks sources
- Every answer comes with sources. Sonar returns the URLs behind each answer. That makes Perplexity the easiest assistant to diagnose: if you are not cited, the report shows exactly which pages were.
- PerplexityBot needs access. Perplexity documents PerplexityBot as the crawler that indexes the pages it shows and links in answers; if robots.txt or a CDN rule blocks it, your pages are less likely to be cited. Check it with our AI crawler checker or the AI crawler list.
- API answers can differ from the app. We sample the Sonar API model. The Perplexity app may use other models, Pro Search and personalisation, so treat one answer as a sample.
- Cited pages are the to-do list. When competitors’ comparison pages, review sites or forum threads are cited instead of you, the fix is usually a specific answer on your page and an accurate mention on those pages.

Need ongoing tracking?

Is this a free Perplexity rank tracker?
It is a free Perplexity visibility checker: one run, no sign-up, with a daily limit per visitor. Perplexity has no fixed rankings, so instead of a position it shows whether you are mentioned and cited for each buyer question, and which sources were cited instead.
How is this different from a Perplexity SEO tracker?
A Perplexity SEO tracker usually re-runs hundreds of prompts daily and charts share of voice. Citelane checks a few buyer questions per page, shows the cited sources, and turns the gap into one fact-checked page edit. Do you use the Perplexity app?
No. We ask Perplexity Sonar through its API (via OpenRouter). The app can use other models and settings, so answers may differ; every answer is labelled with its model.
Why does Perplexity cite my competitor and not me?
Usually because their page, or a third-party page about them, answers the exact question more directly. Open the report, read the cited pages, and add the specific answer they give that your page doesn’t. Also check that PerplexityBot isn’t blocked.
Can I track Perplexity over time?
Yes, for a small panel: with a free account you can opt in to weekly re-sampling of the same questions and compare. Citelane doesn’t do daily tracking of hundreds of prompts.
Which other engines does it check?
The free check also asks Gemini 2.5 Flash and GPT-5 mini with web search. The full audit adds Claude Haiku 4.5. Citelane does not sample Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot.
